A clear desk mat can change both how a desk looks and how devices move across it. This review covers the grip under my laptop, reflected light and why I added a separate mouse pad.
I like this clear desk mat's substantial, flexible feel and the way it helps keep my laptop from sliding. There are two tradeoffs at my desk: my mouse doesn't glide as freely on it, and its tracking feels less smooth. A separate mouse pad resolves both for me. The shiny surface can also reflect nearby lights, so it's worth considering your desk setup.

Quick Verdict
I like the substantial mat and the grip it gives my laptop, but I use a separate mouse pad because mouse glide and tracking felt worse directly on it.
